Hidden deTours is excited to team up with In Culture Tours for a cultural walking tour along the beautiful Rockingham Foreshore using silent disco technology.
This unique tour is hosted by two tour guides from different cultural backgrounds – Monique Boucher from Hidden deTours and Whadjuk tour guide Steven Jacobs. Combined they share stories about First Nations and European history in the area from past to present.
Moordibeedip (Rockingham) is steeped in rich Aboriginal history from over 50,000 years ago. Hear dreamtime stories about how Meendip (Garden Island) came to be and the significance of ceremonies for Noongar people in this area.
Through the wonder of silent disco headphones Noongar stories, history and culture are brought to life with a musical soundtrack.
Experience a Welcome to Country, smoke ceremony and sand throwing ceremony on the beach, before we continue our journey along the foreshore.
Learn about Aboriginal lore and culture, the importance of skin groups, bush medicine, and local food procurement. The impacts of colonisation will be discussed, such as genocide and the stolen generation, with truth telling at the heart of how we all move forward together in this country.
A question and answer opportunity is available at the end of the tour for any questions you may have.
